About the partition loss

As we know, one physical disk can be divided into several partitions (the drive letters such as C:, or D:), they are also called "volumes". Once a hard disk is divided into several partitions, directories and files of different categories may be stored in different partitions. More partitions provide more control but too many may become cumbersome. Careful consideration of the number of the partition is necessary.

Partition loss mainly has two kinds of forms.

  • 1. For the average person, partition only means a volume they seen in the resource manager such as C:,D:,E:. Once the drive letter of the partition is lost, the partition will not be displayed on the resource manager. Someone will think the partition is lost.
  • 2. The partition is actually been deleted or destoyed.

For the first case, the partition is not lost, you can still see it on the Windows Disk Management. At this time, the partition is only been unmontted. You can re-mount it throgh assgin a drive letter for it. And it will be displayed on the resource manager.

For the second, you could not see partition you need in Windows Disk Management, it might be lost and the data on it could be lost with the partition table. Actually, the partition was not really lost, even if partition table was destroyed by virus or deleted accidentally. If partition table was destroyed by virus or other defeat, M3 Data Recovery can help you to do partition recovery. And here we recommend you backup your data in case of any accident.
